What this letter will cite

NY GOL § 7-108(1-a) — Maximum deposit is 1 month rent (HSTPA cap). Pre-2019 leases requiring more must conform on renewal.
NY GOL § 7-108(1-a)(e) — Landlord must return the deposit (or itemized statement of deductions) within 14 days of vacatur. Failure forfeits the right to retain any portion.
NY GOL § 7-108(2-a) — Tenant has right to inspect both at lease commencement and prior to vacating. Owner must give written notice of right to inspect.
NY GOL § 7-103 — Deposit must be held in trust for the tenant; in buildings of 6+ units, must be in an interest-bearing account at a NY bank.
